Hiragana is one of three writing systems in Japan, and usually the one you would learn first. As you can see, this chart links each hiragana symbol to a character whose name starts with that character. However, most charts are horizontal and are read from the top right corner to the bottom right corner, in columns, but this chart has done it very western, from top left to top right in rows.
