Library War Light Novels Get Anime Film

The June flyer for Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Bunko imprint is announcing that a theatrical film adaptation of Hiro Arikawa's Library War (Toshokan Sensō) light novels is in the works. The light novels already inspired a television anime series and two manga adaptations.

In the story, a law threatens to clamp down on freedom of expression in 2019. Iku Kasahara joins the Library Defense Force, a military unit dedicated to protecting books from being confiscated. However, she finds that the job of her childhood dreams is harder than she bargained for.

The light novels won a Seiun Award from the 46th Japan Science Fiction Convention (Nihon SF Taikai or Japan SF Con). Kadokawa Bunko is reprinting the four original light novel volumes that were first published by ASCII Media Works. Viz Media is publishing the fifth volume of Kiiro Yumi's ongoing Library Wars: Love & War (Toshokan Sensō: Love & War) shōjo manga adaptation in North America.

Marina Inoue, the voice actress of Iku Kasahara in the Library War television anime, had hinted earlier on Wednesday that there would be good news for next year.
